East Cobb Man Charged in Stabbing

The incident at a bus stop also included a racial epithet.

An East Cobb man allegedly stabbed one person at a bus stop and hurled the n-word at a second man.

About 5 p.m. Monday, Jerry Wayne Thompson, of an address in the Sandy Plains-Scufflegrit area, was at a Cobb Parkway bus stop near EMC Parkway, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

"The victim told the accused to 'shut up' at which time the accused walked over to him in an aggressive manner," a Cobb police officer wrote in the warrant.

When the man pushed Thompson away, witnesses said Thompson took out a 4-inch Kershaw knife from his pocket and started to swing it at the man. He allegedly cut the man "across the left bicep once and continued to swing the knife at him in a wild manner" before running southbound on Cobb Parkway, the officer wrote.

One witness followed Thompson, who "turned around several times and called the victim (the n-word) and threatened to cut him and kill him," according to the warrant.

Despite the threats, the witness "continued to follow the accused at a safe distance until police arrived on scene," the officer wrote.

Cobb police arrested Thompson a short time later on charges that include aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

He is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bond.
