Cumberland Mall Shooting Ends as Apparent Murder-Suicide

Violet Lambert of Atlanta died from her injuries in the Monday afternoon shooting while her alleged killer was found in East Point from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

For second time in three days, police say a Cobb County mall was the crime scene for what ultimately became what appears to be a murder-suicide.

On Monday, Cobb police responded to an early afternoon shooting outside Cumberland Mall in the parking lot outside Macy’s. When officers arrived they located a female, who was lying in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. 

The female, identified as 55-year-old Violet Lambert of Atlanta, was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she died from her injuries. According to witnesses, the male who shot her got into a white van and was last seen leaving the area.

A short time later, the white van was discovered parked at a residence in East Point in Fulton County. After obtaining a search warrant and with the assistance of East Point Police and Fulton County S.W.A.T., detectives discovered the body of a deceased male inside. 

The man has been identified as 59-year-old Danny Wray Brown of East Point. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has assumed jurisdiction of the body and is expected to confirm the manner and cause of his death.

Lambert and Brown had been friends for years according to several news outlets.

On Saturday, 23-year-old Zakeem Berry of Kennesaw was shot and killed near Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw. His killer, 23-year-old Richard Holcomb of Rydal, Ga., was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
