Cobb to Remember Officer Killed 20 Years Ago

Memorial celebrations will be held tonight and Saturday afternoon.

The family of a Cobb police officer who was shot and killed 20 years ago will hold two memorial celebrations in his honor this weekend.

Officer Robert James Ingram was fatally shot at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 1993, while investigating a suspicious person near the intersection of Marble Mill Road and Marr Avenue in Marietta.

The family will continue its annual tradition of meeting at the site of his death at 12:30 a.m. July 13, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, a spokesman for the department. They will light candles in his honor at exactly 12:40 a.m.

Because Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of his death, Ingram's family will also celebrate his life with a memorial at 7 tonight at the Cobb County Department of Public Safety Training Center, 2109 Valor Dr., Marietta.

"Please join family, friends and members of the Cobb County Police Department to help remember and never to forget not only the life Robert 'Robbie' James Ingram lived, but the sacrifice he made in protecting the citizens of Cobb County," Pierce said.
