Cobb Man Pleads Guilty To Cartersville Rape, Burglary

Dustin James Brookshire pleaded guilty to rape and burglary, and was sentenced to seven years in prison and 23 years on probation.

An Acworth man who was arrested and charged in connection with a July 2011 rape and burglary in Cartersville has pleaded guilty to the crimes.

Dustin James Brookshire pleaded guilty to rape and burglary this week before Bartow County Superior Court Judge Carey Nelson. 

The Cobb County resident received a 30-year sentence, with the first seven years to be served in prison and the remaining 23 years on probation.

Along with the sentence, Brookshire has been ordered to have no contact with the victim, abide by sex offender conditions of probation, pay court appointed attorney fees of $750 and fines totaling $1,000, plus additional surcharges. 

Brookshire was arrested on July 26, 2011, after investigators with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office were called in to assist with a reported rape and burglary in Cartersville that occurred on July 2.
