Chemical Spill Shuts Down Cobb Parkway

Marietta Police says the stretch between Allgood Road and Bells Ferry Road will be closed "well into the evening time."

A chemical spill from an overturned truck has shut down a portion of Cobb Parkway Monday afternoon.

Marietta Police issued an alert at 3:20 p.m. Monday saying that Cobb Parkway is closed in both directions between Allgood Road and Bells Ferry Road "till further notice" because of a chemical spill from an overturned truck.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a truck carrying 50,000 pounds of sodium hydroxide overturned at Cobb Parkway and Industrial Park Drive, near the Canton Road interchange.

The report indicated that a nearby motel and business were evacuated as a precaution.

Police expect Cobb Parkway to be closed "well into the evening time" and that motorists should seek alternative routes.
