Update: Apparent Homicide Victim Identified

The man whose body was found Saturday off Circle 75 Parkway is believed to be a homicide victim, Cobb County police said in a news release this afternoon.

The dead man has been identified as Derrick George Gray Jr., 22, of Smyrna.

The news release from Officer Mike Bowman says the body was discovered about 4:30 p.m., not 8:15 p.m. as reported earlier.

Investigators still ask anyone with information to call 770-499-3945.

A man’s body was found in the woods along Circle 75 Parkway about 300 yards south of Windy Hill Road on Saturday evening, multiple media outlets have reported.

A woman walking along the roadway just west of Interstate 75 saw a shoe on the sidewalk, then spotted the body, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote, citing Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman.

The area, near the I-75 interchange with Windy Hill Road, is in unincorporated Cobb where East Cobb and Smyrna come together. is among the businesses near the site.

The body probably wasn’t there long, 11 Alive said, citing Bowman.

Police suspect a vehicle seen stopped along Circle 75 Parkway between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. is connected to the body. Evidence at the scene indicates the man was killed elsewhere and dumped in the woods, Fox 5 reported.

Police investigators had the area cordoned off around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. CBS Atlanta has video from the investigation scene.

The area is not far from where Cobb firefighters in February discovered the body of a man, most likely a drifter, who was .
