Body Found in I-75/Windy Hill Area

Cobb police investigating case as a homicide.

Updated: 4:10 p.m Wednesday. 

Cobb police said that a body found in a wooded area near the Interstate 75-Windy Hill Road interchange early Wednesday was "burned beyond recognition," and that they are investigating the case as a homicide. 

Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said the unidentified victim was a white male, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, between the ages of 40 and 50. He weighed approximately 160 lbs. and had an amputated right arm below the elbow. Police also believe he was walking with a limp because of a lift shoe on his left foot.

Cobb firefighters discovered the body after being called to a brush fire before dawn, Pierce said. 

Cobb fire spokeswoman Lt. Denell Boyd said firefighters arrived at the scene of a fire in a wooded area near a Citgo Station at 2651 Windy Hill Road around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday and quickly put out the blaze.

Pierce said firefighters found the body a few minutes later while searching for other fire hot spots.
