Body Found in Chattahoochee River

Fishermen discovered a man in the water near an Akers Mill Road Apartment complex; police are investigating as a homicide.

Cobb County police are asking for the public’s help to identify a body two fly fishermen discovered in the Chattahoochee River near an Akers Mill apartment complex around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the case, as it’s believed to be a homicide.

Police describe the victim as a black male about 5’10” with numerous tattoos. Cobb County’s Public Information Officer Dana Pierce said the body is too badly decomposed to offer any other details about the victim’s features.

“Typically what happens when a body gets in the water is it decomposes,” he said. “If the body initially goes down underneath the water and let’s just say for example it gets hung up on rocks it’s only a matter of time before the body will refloat because of decomposition. That complicates matters a bit. We just know that’s when the body was floating by the two fishermen as they recognized.”
