Baby Delivered at Fire Station

An East Cobb family's third daughter couldn't wait to arrive Wednesday.

An East Cobb mom gave birth three weeks and more than six miles early Wednesday morning outside a Cobb County fire station.

Fiona Young, all 4 pounds and 12 ounces of her, couldn’t wait for parents Brett and Elizabeth Young to make it to in Sandy Springs for her birth, according to spokeswoman Denell Boyd.

The mother’s water broke as she was getting into the car just before 6 a.m. to go to the hospital, Brett Young told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, so he came up with an alternate destination: the nearest firehouse, Station 19 at 1500 Powers Ferry Rd.

He called 911 to warn the firefighters of the impending arrival of the couple, their two daughters and their new baby, and two minutes later they were at the station.

Elizabeth Young stepped out of the car and gave birth on the ramp to the station only four minutes after he husband called 911, Boyd reported.

Firefighters were ready with blankets and helped Brett Young with the umbilical cord, 11Alive reported.

The firefighters looked after the mother and child until a Metro Ambulance crew arrived to take her to Northside, where everyone was healthy.

By Wednesday night, everyone was back home, CBS Atlanta reported.
