Obituary: Former State Rep. Kip Klein, 63

A memorial service and visitation are scheduled for Friday at the First Baptist Church of Woodstock.

Former Georgia state representative Kip Klein, whose district included East Cobb, has died from Parkinson's Disease at the age of 63. 

Klein, who was a Marietta attorney, served in the General Assembly from 1991 to 1997 as a Republican. He also ran for the Republican nomination for Georgia Attorney General in 1998.

Klein served as a member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Feed the Hungry Foundation, and a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta.

Klein also was an envoy to Kuwait for the Atlanta Olympic Committee.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sharon, daughters, Tate Ferguson and her husband, David, Brittany Hunter and her husband, Alexander, and Shannon Klein, brother, Danny Klein, granddaughter, Austen Hunter, and extended family: his step-mother, Winifred Klein, step-sister, Caroline Alford, step-brothers, Dan Boone, Major Boone, Carl Boone, Bill Boone, and Bob Boone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward William Klein Jr. and his mother, Dorothy Couch Klein.

A visitation of family will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Woodstock.
