POW/MIA Charity Event in East Cobb

Sunday's fundraiser at the Georgia Rib Co. will benefit the families of missing Vietnam War veterans.

The National League of POW/MIA Families will hold a fundraiser in East Cobb on Sunday that will collect more than financial resources. 

It also will serve to raise awareness for some of the estimated 1,677 missing veterans of the Vietnam War. 

The event, which begins at 1 p.m. at the , 4930 Davidson Rd., is officially called the Texas Hold 'Em April Fools Day Bluff.

The charity poker tournament requires an $80 donation and includes a full buffet, live music, cash bar and the entry for a raffle. Among the raffle items is a large-screen TV.

The event is benefitting the National League of POW/MIA Families, which is composed of wives, children, parents, siblings and other close relatives of men who were or are listed as prisoners of war (POWs), missing in action (MIA) or killed in action/body not recovered (KIA/BNR), as well as returned Vietnam War POWs, other veterans and additional concerned citizens.

According to the organization's numbers, 1,286 veterans are believed to be missing in Vietnam, 326 in Laos, 58 in Cambodia and seven in the territorial waters of the People's Republic of China.

The Lleague’s sole purpose is to obtain the release of all prisoners, the fullest possible accounting for the missing and repatriation of all recoverable remains of those who died serving our nation during the Vietnam War.
