East Cobb Public Safety Appreciation Fundraising Continues
Precinct 4 police officers will be honored in October at the Olde Towne Club.
Business and civic leaders organizing an appreciation dinner for East Cobb police officers have raised nearly $15,000 to cover expenses for next month's event.
And they're continuing to raise money as part of their East Cobb Public Safety Appreciation Celebration drive in putting on the Cobb County Fire Department's annual award banquet early next year.
Precinct 4 officers will be honored at an Oct. 8 dinner at the Olde Towne Club, according to Rosan Hall, a co-chair of the volunteer fundraising effort.
But organizers want to provide them with something more than a meal and gratitude.
"Right now we're focusing on getting gift cards and prizes for a drawing" that will take place at the dinner, Hall said. "We'd like to have something for each of the officers to go away with."
Contributions are still being accepted for those items, as well as the firefighters dinner next February.
The police dinner coincides with Cobb County Public Safety Appreciation week, and the fundraising has been underway since the summer.
The effort began at the behest of former East Cobb Citizens of the Year (selected by the East Cobb Area of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce), and includes the East Cobb Business Association and other organizations.
They have been selling sponsorship for the dinner at levels of $1,000, $500 and $250, and they include the following, Hall said:
- East Cobb Civitans
- Rotary Club of East Cobb
- East Cobb Kiwanis
- Cobb Commissioners Bob Ott and JoAnn Birrell
- Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee
She cited Mt. Paran Church of God North and Transfiguration Catholic Church among the faith communities that have helped with fundraising.
"We want this to be something to engage the whole community," said Hall, an ECBA past-president and the head of the Keller-Williams Agency in East Cobb. "It's about recognizing what our public safety professionals do every day."
