While people talk about the Ultimate Playdate in the Park, Artscape, and other daytime activities, I want to let you in on a little secret about . It is a wonderful place to hang out as a family after dark!
Once or twice a summer, we head over the the park with the kids, usually around 9:00pm. Parking is a breeze - a welcome relief from the daytime traffic jams. The playground is usually empty - though once we ran into another family enjoying the lack of people. The temperature is moderate; even on the hottest of days, the nightime temperature feels comfortable. And you can actually see a few stars.
Because the park stays open until 10:00 pm, we let the kids run around, look for nocturnal animals, and see if they can recognize any of the lights in the sky. Sometimes we play a little kickball - again, the fields are empty, so we have all the room we want. Sometimes we bring a little late night snack, sit around a picnic table, and discuss life.

Just don't tell anyone I told you - it is a local secret, and I'd like to keep it that way.
