Patch Staff Report

The Atlanta Swim Academy Swim-A-Thon event raised $10,878.78 to benefit Roswell-based charity Sunshine on a Ranney Day (SOARD), a non-profit organization that provides room make-overs to children living with long term illness or disabilities.

More than 170 students of East Cobb's Atlanta Swim Academy (ASA) swam laps in the Swim-A-Thon. Participants pledged a lap goal to swim and collected donations from sponsors for a month leading up to the event May 3rd. The students swam a total of 5,487 pool lengths, which converts to 83 miles. Students participating from ASA swim team or group lessons ranged from 4-18yrs old, with ASA instructors and Coaches also participating.

Upcoming SOARD room makeover recipients Tashawn and Alissa were able to join ASA's Coach Jack in the water, completing 20 laps together. Also in attendance were SOARD founders Holly & Pete Ranney with make-over crew members and volunteers, and past room makeover recipients Briana Hudson and Emily Bowman.

“The Swim-A-Thon blended support and awareness for Sunshine on a Ranney Day with a fun experience that also brings together our local community,” Kaye Green, Swim Director at ASA. “Every person who participated in our Swim-A-Thon helped provide a room makeover to a child in need.”
