Walton Students Start Children's Charity

The new group has worked with families at the Ronald McDonald House near Emory University.

Thanks to Walton High School student Matthew Weiss for sending this along about Walton Children's Charities, a new endeavor involving him and other Walton students. For more information contact co-founder Chad Carrodus at chadcarrodus@gmail.com:

Sophomores from Walton High School have founded a new non-profit organization under Walton’s 501(c)(3) status, designed to facilitate fellow peers in community outreach.

The new group is called Walton Children’s Charities (WCC). It’s a clearing house of sorts as they are constantly searching for ways to give back to their community, while helping to broaden the horizons of their fellow peers taking part. The organization projects its annual goal at $15,000. Over $2,750 has already been raised in approximately two months, with a large percentage of this coming from local patrons.

Under lead of co-founder Chad Carrodus serving as President and CEO (pictured), Walton tenth graders Devin Filichiccia (Vice President), Sammy Kureshi (CFO), Jack Peterson (Executive Secretary) and Matthew Weiss (Director of Public Relations) are the founding members of Walton Children’s Charities.

With the rapid growth, it was decided to bring more help to the board as they have been joined by Olivia Baggett, Justin Peterman and Nicholas Orrell-Jones. Nearly 80 students from Walton have joined WCC since its recent inception just a few weeks ago.

Carrodus’ efforts helped the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House by Emory University Hospital.

The group has also been in contact with the Kids In Need Foundation to raise money to purchase over 100 backpacks full of supplies for under-privileged children at a metro Atlanta primary school. Orchestrated by Nicholas Orrell-Jones, these goals are anticipated to be accomplished by the winter holidays.

The next fundraiser will be a Parent vs. Player football game at the Dec. 6 football banquet. A projected $2,500 is expected to be raised.

This would not be possible without their amazing teacher sponsor, Colleen Ham.
