MAY IS ‘BACK IN BLACK’ ADOPTION MONTH AT GOOD MEWS ANIMAL FOUNDATION

Good Mews Animal Foundation is holding a “Back in Black,” adoption promotion, May 1 – 31, to highlight adorable,
adoptable black cats and kittens. Good Mews will reduce the $125 adoption fee to $50 for all black cats and kittens. Black cats make wonderful pets with great personalities, but are often overlooked for the more colorful cats
in a shelter. Good Mews adoption counselors conduct
vigorous interviews with potential adopters to ensure a suitable fit for both human and feline.

Black cats and dogs everywhere are donning their dark glasses and engaging their “flashy things” to wipe out the myths and stereotypes about black animals during Back in Black 2, a national adoption promotion. Supported by national animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society®, 100 animal rescue groups and shelters across the country, including Good Mews, are participating.
Last year, the Back in Black adoption event was introduced to showcase black cats and dogs and give them the best chance at being adopted. More than 900 pets found homes nationwide.

Good Mews’ adoption event is part of Friends Animal Society’s mission of No More Homeless Pets®. Every day, approximately 9,000 pets are killed in shelters  where they don’t have a home. Best Friends and the No More Homeless Pets® Network Partners are committed to saving them.

Located in Marietta, Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the metro-Atlanta area
by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews, a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit organization, was the first no-kill, free-roam, feline-only shelter established in Georgia, housing approximately 100 cats at any given time, with an additional 30+ cats living in foster homes.  Since 1988, Good Mews has placed more than 5,000 cats in permanent homes. The shelter receives no government support, relying instead on donations of time, service, supplies
and money from supporters, the public and area businesses.

Good Mews is located at 736 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A3, Marietta, GA 30068.  For more information and hours, visit www.goodmews.org or call 770-499-CATS (2287).
