ASPCA Fee-Waived Cat Adoption Weekend

Good Mews Animal Foundation, 736 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A3,  Marietta, GA 30068, a nonprofit cage free no-kill cat shelter, announces a special fee-waived cat adoption promotion for two days
only, Saturday, June 18 (10am-4pm) & Sunday, June 19 (1pm-4pm).

As part of the national Fresh Step/ASPCA Fee-Waived Cat Adoption Campaign, and in support of National Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, Good Mews’ “Let’s Hear it for the Boys!” weekend will feature male cats over nine months of age. As with all Good Mews
cats, these special, fee-waived cats have been neutered, have received necessary vaccinations and are micro-chipped.  The regular adoption fee is $125.

Although the adoption fee is waived during the promotional weekend, all other adoption policies remain in effect. Good Mews adoption counselors conduct vigorous interviews with potential adopters to ensure a suitable fit for both human and feline. In partnership with the ASPCA, Good Mews is one of only two area shelters to participate in the “Meet Your Match” program, which establishes a personality profile for each cat so that adopters can determine if the cat is a good fit for their household. For more information and hours visit www.goodmews.org or call 770-499-CATS (2287)

ASPCA research conducted in 2009* shows that eliminating    adoption fees does not devalue the animals in the eyes of the  adopters & Free adult cat programs could “dramatically impact the lives of thousands of shelter  cats who would otherwise reside in a shelter for months or be euthanized.”

Good Mews was modeled after Tree House, a no-kill, cage-free shelter in Chicago.  Its founder, Gloria Skeen, started Good Mews in her Atlanta townhouse in 1988 to provide an alternative to shelters that euthanized unwanted cats.  Good Mews was the first no-kill, free-roam, feline-only shelter established in Georgia, housing approximately 100 cats at any given time, with an additional 30+ cats
living in foster homes.  Located in Marietta, Georgia, Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage free haven for homeless, abused or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach.  Since 1988, Good Mews has placed more than 5,000 cats in permanent homes. The shelter receives no government support, relying instead on donations of time, service, supplies and money from our supporters, the public and area businesses.
