A Peek at Pallookaville

Discovering Pallookaville, located in the Tudor Village of Avondale Estates on the corner of N. Avondale and N. Clarendon, is like receiving an unexpected gift or meeting a long lost friend.  It makes you feel happy!  More quirk than kitsch, the interior, resembling that of a retro diner, has been spectacularly and thoughtfully designed, obviously by someone who has a great passion for, among other things, 20th century iconic television and film character collectibles, which together with various other quirky and delicious decor, line the walls throughout the location.  Although the menu reflects the retro ambiance, the food certainly doesn't - the burgers are prepared using regionally sourced, hormone and antibiotic free pork, and processed at Pine Street Market using a blend of their bacon and super secret spices.  The pies are sourced at Southern Sweets Bakery.  Both Pine Street Market and Southern Sweets Bakery are in Avondale Estates.  The corned beef, pastrami, smoked turkey, pickles, and boiled peanuts are cured on a daily basis in house, the smoked chicken salad and pimento cheese are also made daily in house.  Although famous for their corn dogs (ask for a double-dipped or a "fryinstein monster" featuring 3 types of meat), I decided to try the pork burger with added Swiss cheese served on a locally made egg bun. It was perfectly prepared, moist, tender and very flavorful. The side of fries were good, not fabulous.  And then came the cherry pie.  A crust so light and buttery can only be deserved of a filling of equal quality.  And the cherries filled that need.  This may be a bold statement, but this could have been the best cherry pie I have had in my life!  Seriously.  It was that good.  But wait - there's more...  There's a never-ending list of sodas to choose from with an array of flavorings, as well as parfaits and milkshakes.  But Pallookaville doesn't stop there.  They also have a full bar, and offer "shaketails" - an adult shake section.  You can pretty much pick your poison from a very long list of liquors and beers to add to your desired flavor of shake.  Whilst partaking in all of this deliciousness, immerse yourself in some guilty pleasure and watch one of the retro tv shows on the screen.  By the way, as if it couldn't get any better, I hear through the grapevine that brunch is in the works...  For children and adults alike - Pallookaville is a blast!
