Informing Health Care Consumers

This post discusses the recent article released on patch.com about health care cost transparency, health care cost reduction, and a study of 70,000 patients.

If you look up the World Health Organization's ranking of health systems on Wikipedia, the U.S. ranks #1 in health care expenditures per capita but #38 in overall rank of the health care system. The issue is not access or technology but rather allocation. Our current system does not sustain itself on healthy people but rather maintaining sick people.

This discussion is about saving you, the health care consumer, money and time.We want to improve your health for a lifetime of happiness instead of fear and sickness. The facts presented can be applied to a vast majority of health issues. Chiropractic deals with the nervous system, and only 10% of the nerves in our body control pain. Therefore 90% of the nerves in our body control things we cannot feel and can be functioning improperly as you read this post without you knowing it.

Medical office visits typically cost anywhere from 50-500% more than a chiropractic office visit. Chiropractic focuses on finding the cause of an issue and fixing this cause so the issue does not return. At the medical office, pain medication might ease the pain, but it does not address the underlying cause. An article (naturalnews.com) states that "insurance companies continue to pay pharmaceutical companies to keep producing chemicals to keep up the addiction ratesa vicious cycle." In other words we are paying a company that we thought had our best interests in mind to turn us into a social statistic? A study of 70,000 patients over 7 years was done to compare those under chiropractic care versus those under medical care. The study showed that hospital admission costs decreased by 60.2%, cost for time spent in the hospital decreased by 59.0%, and outpatient surgeries and procedures decreased by 62.0%. The article also states that "the costs associated with pharmaceuticals decreased by 85% when compared to conventional medically driven care".
