The City of Smyrna has settled a lawsuit with local resident Mary Kirkendoll after she was arrested for profanity at a 2009 meeting, agreeing to pay her $85,000.

Kirkendoll filed a federal lawsuit against the city, claiming that it had violated her First Amendment rights and put her under false arrest and imprisonment.

Kennesaw State University has suspended one of its fraternities for two and a half years after a student reported incidents of alleged hazing in September.

The alleged incidents of "servitude, alcohol consumption and sleep deprivation" involved the 37-member Kennesaw Chapter of Delta Chi International Fraternity, which has appealed the suspension.

A 53-year-old inmate died in the Douglas County Jail Wednesday night, and an autopsy was performed Thursday, according to Sheriff Phil Miller.

"I have no reason to believe he died of anything but natural causes," Miller said.

The undefeated Atlanta Falcons are coming up big winners this fall, but apparently a man with the logo of the Dirty Birds tattooed between his eyes came up a loser when he was arrested in connection with last month’s armed robbery in a Savannah College of Art and Design dorm room.

The Atlanta Police Department announced today that an anonymous tip led to the arrest of Richard D Chaney, 29, in connection with the Sept. 17 incident in which two men allegedly broke into a dorm room at the Midtown school and bound and robbed a pair of male students.
