News Nearby: Sex Allegations Against Waffle House CEO; Town Center Traffic

The Atlanta Police Department is investigating allegations that Waffle House CEO Joe W. Rogers Jr. repeatedly forced an Acworth woman to perform sex acts on him during her time as Rogers' personal assistant.

Mye Brindle worked out of Rogers' Buckhead home as his assistant from 2003 until May 2012. It was at that Chatham Road home that the 43-year-old Acworth single mother said most of the alleged acts occurred, according to an Atlanta Police incident report.

More than two months after Brindle resigned, Rogers sued her on Sept. 14 in Cobb County Superior Court. Brindle countered with a suit of her own on Sept. 19 in Fulton County State Court.

Road Around Town Center Mall to Temporarily Close Sunday

From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, the Cobb County Department of Public Safety and other agencies will conduct "a full scale active shooter exercise," said Sgt. Dana Pierce, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.

The exercise will force the department to shut down Ring Road, the road around Town Center, for the duration of the training.

Brookhaven Commission To Continue Business As Usual

It'll continue to be business as usual - at least, as usual as possible for a city that still needs to elect a mayor and four city councilors between now and Dec. 17 - for Gov. Nathan Deal's Brookhaven Commission.

On Wednesday night, the commission decided to continue its efforts in ramping up the city, given the fact that only one city councilman has been officially elected, while the other city officers await a Dec. 4 runoff.

Cherokee Commission Adopts FY 2013 Budget

Cherokee County Commissioners unanimously approved its fiscal year 2013 budget on Tuesday.

The budget is set at $189.5 million, which is slightly lower than the county's annualized 2012 budget of $189.9 million. The original fiscal year 2013 budget came in at $193 million, but the county slashed $4 million from the budget before its final adoption.
