Keeping It Short, and Not So Much

A few things to know about East Cobb today.

After a few weeks of live-blogging from some significant events -- commissioner Bob Ott's , the WellStar presentation to the East Cobb Civic Association and Tuesday's , we're eager to hear what you think about reporting on these events this way.

We've already heard from a few of you who think we need to consolidate our postings on Facebook and Twitter, and after doing a few of these events myself, I have to say I agree.

The Cobb Patch sites have been experimenting with this format to present an immediate, real-time response to news of great interest to citizens on hot topics. But the play-by-play temptation that these social media tools offers can be too much to resist.

At the end of last night's Facebook updates, reader Melanie Hedges Greenfield posted on the East Cobb Patch wall

"Enjoy reading the Patch postings occasionally. But you need to reduce the frequency! You fill my FB page every hour!"

We hear you and heartily agree, Melanie! Some techinical issues have prevented us from live updates from this morning's , but we'll wrap it up later today in -- we promise -- more condensed fashion.

2. Like and Follow: Having said that, if you'd like to keep up with East Cobb Patch on social media, we'd love for you to "like" our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Those are especially good for mobile devices and we're told there's soon going to be a Patch iPhone app. We'll let you know when it's ready so you can get your East Cobb news on the go.

3. Kiwanis Meets: If it's Wednesday, that means it's the weekly meeting of the from 7-8 p.m. at the Paradise South of the Border restaurant, 3605 Sandy Plains Road. They're involved with a range of civic and community service projects. For information call 770-977-2026.

4. Heating Up: After a little bit of a chilling (but refreshingly so) day on Tuesday, which included overnight lows in the 40s, Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to be a bit warmer and sunnier in the EC. The projected highs both days around in the high 70s with lows in the mid 50s. Then the chance of rain and thunderstorms moves in on Friday and Saturday.

5. East Cobb Gas Sighting: $3.63 (99) at the BP Station, Roswell Road at North Greenbriar Parkway. This is my usual refueling base, but that price is at least 8 cents a gallon higher than when I last filled up just a few days ago.

Any predictions on when we might reach $4 around here? I'm hoping not until after the summer.
