Food Fests, Football, Futbol and Flicks

Feeling festive? Getting hungry? Ready to savor the last holiday weekend of the summer? There's so much to do in and around Marietta, East Cobb and Northeast Cobb that we can't put every worthwhile event here.

But we've compiled what we think is a highlight calendar of fun for every taste. Whatever you do with your weekend, enjoy!

All you can eat

• Temple Kol Emeth's  has the full spread of traditional Jewish food and other ethnic items for your sampling, but that's not all that's featured at the East Cobb synagogue on Sunday and Monday. 

On Sunday night, former Seinfeld, Politically Incorrect and Jimmy Kimmel Show writer Keith Barany is the featured performer at the Comedy Night event, beginning at 7:30. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online. 

Otherwise, the Nibble & Noshfest is free admission, with food samples from local restaurants costing between $1 and $4. 

Noshfest hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, rain or shine. 

Kol Emeth is at 1415 Old Canton Rd., at the corner of Old Canton and Sewell Mill roads. 

• If you have a hankering for holiday barbecue, Holy Smoke Music BBQ and Music Festival will be a Labor Day feast in East Cobb.

The deadline for purchasing advanced food tickets has passed, but vendors selling hot dogs, burgers, chicken strips, and other festival foods will also be on hand. 

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the church's ample athletic fields, with plenty of music and entertainment, including a classic car show, a cooking show and a street fair with crafts.

Admission is free to attend the daylong festivities.

Are You Ready?

The high school football season is already underway, but Kennesaw Mountain's visit to and the all-Northeast Cobb clash between and highlight the first full Friday on everyone's schedule. 

Pope, which downed Wheeler 31-7 last week, at 7:30 p.m. by inducting three athletes, including former quarterback T.J. Yates, into its sports hall of fame. Yates, who's vying to make the Houston Texans' roster, won't be there, but the Greyhounds are expected to make it 2-0.

Lassiter had a week off after its big upset of defending AAAAA state champion Brookwood and is ready for against the Yellow Jackets, who are looking for their first win.

also springs into action after a bye week by traveling to Walton, while visits South Cobb and Marietta is at Hillgrove.

All games start at 7:30 p.m. 

One, Two, Three, Kick

The largest three-day youth tournament in the Southeast is a Labor Day tradition in the metro Atlanta area, and it has a heavy presence in East Cobb. 

The Publix Atlanta Cup, put on by Georgia Soccer, includes games at the Metro North Fields, the home base for the North Atlanta Soccer Association. And while most of the spectators are the family and friends of players, admission to the games is free and open to the public. 

Games start Saturday morning and wind up by late Monday afternoon.

Play It Again, Sam

• If you know that a kiss is just a kiss, and a smile is just a smile, then you might have already made plans to attend Friday night's screening of Casablanca at the on Marietta Square.

This  never gets old, especially for fans of old movie classics like this. Even if you're not, let yourself step back into time—this one's set during World War II—and enjoy one of Hollywood's throwback flicks. 

Showtime is $8 p.m. and tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children, seniors and students. 

The theatre is at 117 North Park Square. 

• But if you think all that is quaint, the same theater will bring out a very different variety of all the usual suspects Saturday with the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie officially starts at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, the standard late-night time for all those in Rocky's merry band of followers. You must be 18 or older to see the cult classic, starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon.

Tickets are $10 each.
