East Cobb Week in Review, June 5-11

School's out, but education topics remain white hot.

1. -- In a special Sunday meeting, the Cobb school board voted 6-0 to hire the Dallas superintendent to succeed Fred Sanderson. Some protesters known; East Cobb member David Banks, who says he cannot attend weekend meetings, was absent. 

2. -- Banks did succeed in getting the school board to place a compromise proposal to alter the controversial school calendar on the June 23 agenda. 

3. -- Atlanta-area leaders met at the Cobb Galleria Centre to explain a Northern Crescent Transit plan and discuss other regional transportation topics.

4. -- The East Cobb department store's renovation is the latest upgrade in the redevelopment of the Merchant's Walk Shopping Center, which later in July will welcome a Whole Foods store. 

5. -- Former Walton basketball player Ryan Harrow arrived in Lexington after transferring from N.C. State, while Raider football players Zach and Daron Blalock announced they will play football for the Wildcats.
