East Cobb Week in Review, July 10-16

The top headlines from the not-so-lazy middle of summer.

1. -- Jason Rooks didn't allow a single Milford runner to reach base and struck out 16 as the East Marietta Giants won the Georgia District 2 Little League title Sunday. 

2.  -- The former schools chief in Dallas, Texas, on Monday officially succeeded the retired Fred Sanderson in Cobb. 

3. -- No. 65, the only Cobb Community Transit bus route serving East Cobb, was eliminated, along with two others on Tuesday, as the Cobb Commission slashed more spending as it prepares for fiscal year 2012 budget deliberations. The cuts are effective Aug. 1.

4. Stephenson Won't Seek Another Term -- Cobb Superior Court Clerk Jay Stephenson, who's been openly critical of Cobb budget cuts, announced he will leave office when his term expires at the end of next year. Stephenson, 66, has been on the job since 1985.

5. -- Annie Smith, a resident at the Ashley Manor facility in Northeast Cobb, was found dead in DeKalb County on Thursday, one day after going missing from the personal care home. She had been suffering from dementia.
