Mt. Bethel Christian Academy announces upper school

(Marietta, Georgia) — Mt. Bethel Christian Academy (MBCA), a private Christian school in East Cobb, is now accepting applications for its founding class of ninth grade students to commence on its new Upper School campus in August 2014. In partnership with Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, the Academy has placed property at 2509 Post Oak Tritt Road in Marietta under contract for the new Upper School. The property is being purchased from the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta. The new Upper School campus includes: 33 acres with recreation facilities, a baseball field, a field sports practice field, a fitness center, tennis courts, a pool, and a 33,500 square foot building that will be renovated for classes, administration and dining.

“Mt. Bethel Christian, founded in 1998, was always destined to include an Upper School,” said Jim Callis, Head of School.  “We began, as most schools do, with kindergarten and grew steadily as we solidified our mission and the distinctive characteristics that make up the Mt. Bethel experience.  Now, sixteen years later, we are fulfilling our plans to include an Upper School where we can shepherd a child's heart and mind from kindergarten through twelfth grade. There has long been a need for a, K-12, faith-based preparatory school in East Cobb.  We are honored to meet that need with our tradition of academic excellence in a Christ-centered setting,” continued Callis.

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s Upper School will offer its founding class of freshmen a college preparatory curriculum with honors and advanced placement options including: English 9, Honors English, World Geography and AP Human Geography, Geometry and Algebra II, Biology and Honors Biology, Latin, Spanish, Studio Art, Chorus, and Concert Band. “The benefit of having sixteen years of history as a school is that our Upper School program will be rich and excellent the first day the doors open,” said Callis. “MBCA has developed a reputation for competitive athletics at the middle school level and we intend to continue that tradition to our Upper School.  In our first year, we intend to compete in basketball, cross-country, golf, tennis, swimming, and wrestling. In year two, we will add volleyball, soccer and lacrosse,” continued Callis.

For the 2014-2015 school year, the academy plans to expand its bus transportation program to include new routes in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs and a route between the main campus and the Upper School campus. A route currently serving families in the Smyrna/Mableton area will continue.

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy was founded in 1998 and provides a Christ-centered, college-preparatory education in an environment that develops and encourages academic excellence, spiritual growth and a lifelong love of learning. The academy serves over 500 students in grades kindergarten through eight at its location on Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. The Upper School will open in August 2014 with a freshman class of up to forty students at 2509 Post Oak Tritt Road in Marietta. For more information on Mt.
