Village Market at Paper Mill Closes

The vendor market shuts down because of code issues over signs.

The Village Market at Paper Mill, which featured local vendors displaying their wares in outdoor weekend exhibits at the Paper Mill Village shopping center, closed this week.

A message on the market's Facebook page Tuesday read: "MARKET CLOSED...I TRIED AS BEST I COULD TO KEEP IT OPEN.......THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT......GOD BLESS YOU ALL..." but did not give a reason.

Contacted later, market organizer Angela Bermudez said she shut down operations because the Cobb County code limits the number of temporary signs for enterprises like hers.

She said she could post only four signs near the busy intersection of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road, where the shopping center is located.

"I was trying to get foot traffic, but I had only five vendors," said Bermudez, an East Cobb resident and fashion designer. "When I had to take the signs down, I lost the vendors, and I don't blame them."

The market  and had its first spring sale last weekend, but with few customers, Bermudez said.
