Tea Time and More at The Vineyard Café

Marietta Square spot also serves up sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Overview: I have often looked up at the diners in the big bay window above the Vineyard Gift Shop on the Marietta Square and wondered who they were.

From any side of the bustling Square, these diners appeared to be curiously unrushed and really enjoying themselves yet, from another time, maybe another century.

There seemed to be something special and slightly mysterious about it. When invited to a “girls morning out” brunch this past Saturday at The Vineyard Café, I was happy to have the opportunity to see what it was all about.

I was at once charmed and a little mesmerized. From the moment you walk through the doors of the gift shop downstairs until you reach the café upstairs, you do actually feel like you’ve stepped into another era.

It’s distinctly feminine. The gift shop is filled with hand-made scented soaps, candles, jewelry, accessories and home décor. I noticed a tray of pastel-colored kid leather gloves, conjuring up an image of previous "ladies who lunch."

Upstairs, even the area you wait in to be seated is decorated with one-of-a-kind baubles, furniture and antiques (all for sale). At last, here I was, one of the diners in the big bay window. The menu itself also provided answers I’d had about the relaxed, happy atmosphere I’d noticed from the street.

The Vineyard Café specializes in all things tea: caffeinated, non caffeinated, slightly caffeinated -- in every flavor and scent imaginable. From its signature “Georgia Peach” tea, exotic Moroccan Mint and White Persian Melon flavors to the traditional Earl Grey teas, there’s an entire menu devoted to tea.

A Tea Party “On the Spot” may be ordered with complete with fresh fruit, scones with honey cream, cookies, muffins and individual tea presses. For heartier eaters there’s a delicious selection of fresh, crisp salads, croissant sandwiches, soups, pastries and desserts. I now fully understand why the diners in the big bay window of The Vineyard Café look so content. It’s the perfect place to book your next lunch meeting, lunch in the Park, bridal luncheon, party or baby shower in one of the private rooms.

They even host tea parties for children. Dining at The Vineyard Café is a special experience, one you need to try very soon. The owners say to dine there is  “celebrating the ‘Harvest’ of faith, family, and friends…” and that says it all.

The Food: The food is wonderful, fresh and beautifully presented. I recommend:

AppetizerParmesan Spinach Bites $ 5.25 - These are prepared from scratch and served hot with a creamy garlic dressing on the side. They are scrumptious.

Full Tea: $17.95 - Fresh Fruit, Scones with Honey Cream, Cookies, Muffins and Individual Tea Press. Includes Cup of Soup and assorted Sandwiches. Served on a dainty multi-tiered silver tray and is the signature menu choice. Very Fru-Fru.

Lunch:

Panini Genovese  $7.75 - Genoa Salami, Smoked Ham, Provolone Cheese, Tomato, Red Onion with Pesto Aioli; grilled on Ciabatta Bread. Served with choice of: Greek Pasta Salad, “Sweet Potato” Salad, Cole Slaw or Chips.

Café Specialty Croissant  $7.95 - Creamy Chicken Salad with Cranberries and Almonds. Served on a warm, buttery Croissant. Served with choice of: Greek Pasta Salad, “Sweet Potato” Salad, Cole Slaw or Chips.

“The Vineyard” Salad $7.95 - Mixed Greens, Roasted Vegetables, Grapes, Pecans, Goat Cheese. Served with the special House Champagne Vinaigrette.

Desserts: Oh the choices . . . cookies, truffles, cannolis, cakes and more. They all looked tempting and I was too full to order one, but I have been told the Coconut Cream Bread Pudding is a must-try. It has won the Taste of Marietta’s Dangerously Delicious Dessert Award, if that tells you anything!
