Small Business Q&A: Drywall Tools and Repairs
This Northeast Cobb independent business serves building contractors and subcontractors.
Drywall Tools and Repairs, LLC was formally known as The Tool Box. The business name change follows new ownership.
Federico Vargas is the owner and repair specialist. He also repairs drywall tools at the two-person shop.
Israel Santana is Vargas's partner and manager.
Vargas, a U.S. citizen, moved here from Mexico 20 years ago. He taught elementary school before relocating to U.S. and said he was drawn to migrate here by the promise of better financial opportunities and the allure of American culture.
"It was American movies, music and the language I was attracted to. I think many people outside of the U.S. feel the attraction, too," he said.
Vargas lives in Marietta. He worked for the previous business owner for six years.
Q. What's the best thing about your job?
A. We do a little part in keeping the building industry alive.
Q. What is the best thing about Northeast Cobb?
A. It's continuously growing. Financially, Cobb is one of the strongest regions.
The building industry is slow now compared to the high that we did have, but we're still strong.
Q. Why did you pick this kind of business?
A. I have experience and know that our services are needed.
Q. What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?
A. We make repairs very fast. Sometimes we will fix the tool while you wait or the same day.
Q. How long have you been in business?
A. Since the end of October. It was The Tool Box for about 15 years before that.
Q. How did your business get started?
A. The owner was going to close the doors. I know our services are needed in the building industry, so, I bought the business with savings and help from family and my partners.
Q. Do you have advice for anyone who'd like to start a small business in this area?
A. Be patient. Most businesses take time before they make a profit. Stay with it.
Q. Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know?
A. We want your business. Our promise is to offer the best service possible and to keep prices as low as the previous owner established. And, we will have a website soon.
