Easy Comfort at the Starlight Cafe

Reasonably-priced breakfast and lunch menus headline this Marietta Square favorite.

Unimposing and easily overlooked,  has made its home on  Square for over a year.

The cafe is located on Roswell Street, but you can see Glover Park from the restaurant. There is indoor and outdoor seating; though, I'd recommend staying indoors this time of year.

I was at home the moment I walked inside. Quiet, clean, wood floors, classic dark reds and black, aged brick walls—I was comfortable. The walls are decorated with photos of famous singers and actors including The Three Stooges, Frank Sinatra, James Dean, Elvis Presley, Barbara Eden as Jeannie and more. I found myself playing "name that famous person."

The music was something out of the 1950s—soft, smooth and easily ignored or enjoyed. (I'll admit I was the annoying customer humming and singing under my breath, but I can't resist Frank Sinatra). The TVs were tuned to sports and news.

My only complaint about the decor is that much of the front window is covered with signs obstructing the view of the street and Glover Park.

Service: The service was great. Given the setup of the cafe, I figured that once your food was delivered you'd be more or less ignored; however, I was repeatedly asked how my food tasted and/or if I needed anything.

Food: The cafe serves breakfast and lunch. The lunch menu has salads, seafood, sandwiches, burgers and 11 types of hotdogs.

The most popular sandwich at The Starlight Cafe is the chicken avocado: grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, avocado slices and rosemary mayo on a bolillo roll for $4.99 with a side for $1.00.

When broken apart from the rest of the sandwich, the chicken was bland; however, this was undetectable when eating the sandwich as a whole. The tomato and lettuce were fresh, and the bread was lightly toasted. Overall, it was a good sandwich at a reasonable price.

The tater tots were cooked perfectly and came out warm. I like my tater tots with a mildly crunchy exterior and these delivered.

The side salad was a home run. The honey mustard dressing was what you would expect, and the vegetables were fresh.

Bottom Line: The Starlight Cafe serves breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices. The environment is relaxing, and the service is polite. I will be returning to this Marietta restaurant.
