East Cobb Walmart Grocery Opening Nov. 1

The former Kroger space at Sandy Plains Village Shopping Center is nearly ready for business.

The second Walmart Neighborhood Market to open in the East Cobb area will have a ribbon-cutting Nov. 1.

Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell told constituents during a town hall meeting this week that the new 60,000-square-foot grocery, at 4651 Woodstock Road, will open its doors at 7:30 a.m. that day.

The store will be in the same space as a former Kroger in the Sandy Plains Village Shopping Center, located between Mabry Road and Sandy Plains Road.

The first Walmart grocery to open in the area did so in March on Canton Road as part of an effort by Birrell to spur commercial redevelopment in that corridor.

Another Walmart grocery is planned for the Olde Mill Shopping Center at Roswell Road and Old Canton Road. Reconstruction of that retail center is underway to relocate a fitness center that's currently occupying a former Winn Dixie store that will serve as the new space for Walmart.
