Chequers Seafood + Steak Relocating to East Cobb

After 31 Years, the Perimeter restaurant offers a week-long $31 dining special before reopening in East Cobb on May 6.

Patch Staff Report

Since opening its doors in 1983, Chequers Seafood + Steak has become a staple for Dunwoody residents, business executives and visitors alike.

Serving the area’s freshest ocean fare, prime steaks and handcrafted cocktails, the restaurant will close its doors—on Sunday, April 27 immediately following brunch service at 3 p.m.—to make way for a new development that will utilize the land that Chequers currently occupies.

Ironically, Chequers will close its doors on the same week they opened 31 years ago. To mark the celebration of mixed feelings, Chequers is offering diners a $31 pre-fixe menu for dinner and Sunday Brunch—through the remainder of the week.

‘We looked at various location opportunities and after months of searching, we finally discovered the perfect spot in East Cobb,” Brantley Smith, managing partner of Chequers Seafood + Steak, said in a news release. "Fortunately, the crowd who frequents our Dunwoody location has decided to come with us. In fact, many of them live in the East Cobb area. On the other hand, it’s been an honor to serve the Dunwoody community for more than three decades.”

Beginning May 6 at 4 p.m., Chequers fans can reunite at the new East Cobb location at 1406 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA—in the space formerly occupied by Houlihan’s Restaurant + Bar. The restaurant will open for dinner seven days week, along with Sunday brunch.

Executive Chef James Dennerline will move his pots and pans to the new location, along with menu favorites like Char-Crusted Ahi Tuna, USDA PRIME Bone-in Ribeye  and a host of other classic selections. Plus, the menu will feature some of the Chef’s new creations such as Maple Plank Roasted Salmon. The new East Cobb location will include some updated features such as a semi-private dining space, indoor seating for more than 100 and an outdoor/covered patio seating for 65.

The relocation for Chequers was announced after State Farm purchased the land at the current location. The new State Farm office undergoes development this summer and will eventually become a 2.2 million square-foot mixed-use project and one of the largest corporate office developments in metro Atlanta’s history.
