Brazilian Festival Returns to East Cobb

The second event to coincide with the country's Independence Day takes place Sunday at Sal Grosso.

East Cobb is the home of a thriving Brazilian community that's holding a big celebration on Sunday.

The second annual Brazilian Day Festival takes place from 1-7 p.m. at the Sal Grosso Steak House, 1927 Powers Ferry Road.

According to the Global Atlanta website, the festival organizers are working with the Brazilian Consulate General of Atlanta and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce to put on the event, which is being held in conjunction with Brazilian Independence Day.

Live music, a food court and local businesses and organizations catering to the Brazilian community, including the Holy Family Catholic Church, will be present.

Around 1,000 people attended last year's inaugural event, and organizers are expecting a crowd of more than 3,000.

The Powers Ferry Road area is lined with Brazilian-oriented restaurants, eateries and other small businesses.
