Make a Masterpiece this Week!

A guide to arts & craft sessions for tots to teens around town!

Get out of the house, get out of the heat & get creative!

This week travel the world with Michael’s Passport to Fun Make It and Take It Craft Sessions for ages 3 and up. All three workshops are from 11am-2pm, drop-in and are FREE! 3 Cobb locations in Kennesaw, Marietta, and Smyrna.

  • On Tuesday, travel to Russia -- design Russian nesting dolls and a frisky brown bear.
  • On Thursday, explore France -- create an impressionist-style painting and funky little craft Frenchmen.
  • On Saturday, jet set to the UK to design a crown fit for a king or queen and a lucky shamrock.

Cobb County Public Library offers a jam packed schedule of fun for babies to teens. Check their kid’s calendar and their teen calendar for your favorite locations but here are a few of Cobb Tots & Kids picks!

  • Wednesday: At Gritters Library create your masterpiece out of Legos during their weekly “School-Age Program” at 3:30pm. FREE, no registration required! (880 Shaw Park Road, Marietta)
  • Thursday: Gritters Library has a Bead Art Workshop for teens (age 13-18) from 3:30-4:30pm. It’s FREE but call to register: (770) 528-2524. (880 Shaw Park Road, Marietta)
  • Thursday: At Kennesaw Library from 1:30-2:30pm, teens can draw an anime-style drawing during “TeenzArt Workshop”. It’s FREE, just show up & no previous artistic experience required! (2250 Lewis Street, Kennesaw)

A few museums offer craft workshops which are included in the cost of admission so although it may not be free, you get to explore the museum too!

  • The Southern Museum in Kennesaw has a "Make It & Take It" Workshop on Saturday, the 16th at 10am-11:30am. Kids 6 and up will use decoupage art technique to create a personalized "treasure" box. Admission is $7.50 for adults & $5.50 for kids 4-12. 
  • Take field trip this week beyond Cobb. Toddlers age 3-5 years old will love the weekly program designed just for them at The High Museum on Thursdays from 11am-3pm. This week's theme on the 14th is "2 Hummingbirds". Admission is $18.00 for adults but kids 5 & under are FREE! No registration, just drop in!

More places to find one day art workshops for kids this summer:

  • Earth, Paint & Fire in Woodstock has weekly "Goin' Green" summer workshops on Wednesdays from 10-12:30 for kids 6 and up. This week's creation..."Newspaper/Magazine & Craft Collage on Canvas" - oh, la, la! The cost is $25. According to their facebook page, there are still a few spots left for this week but call today! 770-592-4114
  • ARTSCAPE offers weekly outdoor art sessions at East Cobb Park on Thursdays at 9-10am. Cost is $15 per child. Registration is recommended but they will take walk-ups! This week's project is based on the outdoor sculptures of Gil Sadeh.
