'Dancing for Joan' at The Pavillion

February fundraiser in East Cobb is devoted to lung cancer research efforts.

Joe Gaeta is passionate in telling the story about his mother's death from lung cancer in 2007.

"She never touched a cigarette in her life," he says about Joan Gaeta. "It kills more Americans than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers combined. But, due to the stigma attached to it, it receives a mere fraction of the attention and research funding. As we like to reiterate, nobody deserves lung cancer. And you do not have to smoke to get it."

He has been honoring her memory ever since through the Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Fund, of which he is the president. On Feb. 25, a major fundraiser in her name will return to the The Pavillion of East Cobb.

The event, sponsored by Northside Hospital Cancer Care, is called "Dancing for Joan" because of Joan Gaeta's love for dancing.

The evening will also feature dinner, live music, a silent auction and informational speakers. In the past, Headline News host Nancy Grace has been an emcee; although she is unavailable this year, she prepared the accompanying video message.
