'The Battle of Shallowford' Opens at The Art Place

The Southern-themed comedy continues through Oct. 26.

Tonight's Mountain View Arts Alliance coffee-dessert benefit preview kicks off a two-week run of "The Battle of Shallowford" at The Art Place

The CenterStage North production continues Saturday with the opening night dinner show and another coffee benefit and dessert matinee on Sunday.

"The Battle of Shallowford" is billed as a "down-home" Southern comedy set in Shallowford, N.C. -- and not the East Cobb road close to The Art Place -- and based on the 1938 Orson Welles radio broadcast about aliens invading the planet.

“Tickle their funny bones, warm their hearts, don’t insult their intelligence.... The Battle of Shallowford hits that magic trio," wrote the Knoxville News-Sentinel in a review.

Tonight's event starts at 8 p.m. Tickets for that and Sunday's 2 p.m. coffee and dessert show cost $15 a person. The proceeds will benefit the MVAA and The Art Place.

Saturday's dinner show begins at 6:30 p.m. and the cost for appetizers, wine and dinner is $25 a person.

The menu for Saturday fits the Southern theme of the show: North Carolina-style BBQ, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, greens, bread and banana pudding.

Tickets are on sale at the CenterStage North or in person at The Art Place, 3330 Sandy Plains Road.

"The Battle of Shallowford" continues Oct. 17-20 and Oct. 24-26.
