Cultural Affairs Award for The Art Place
The state has recognized the East Cobb center for its arts program for troubled girls.
The Art Place and Mountain View Arts Alliance in East Cobb recently accepted a 2011 State GRPCA Cultural Affairs Program Award for its "Fusion" Cobb County Girls Court Program.
The Girls Fusion Art Program allowed 15 young women to discover that art can be an emotional outlet. They were given this opportunity as an alternative to more negative experiences, such as youth detention centers.
Many of the participants commented that they learned patience, how to cope with their feelings and to express themselves through art. The program was success in helping impact these youth in a critical time in their lives.
