Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti Performance

The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection presents a free performance of “Resurrection from the Rubble” by the Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti, an internationally recognized dance troupe of former orphaned street children and child slaves from St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in Haiti.  Through dance and drumming, the group tells their stories of how all things are possible through faith and determination.  The 2011 nationwide tour seeks to raise funds to support the rebuilding of the St. Joseph’s main building in Port-au-Prince that was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake.

The performance is scheduled for Friday, April 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, located on Paper Mill Road, approximately .25 miles west of Johnson Ferry Road, in East Cobb.

“Resurrection from the Rubble” showcases nine dance and drum segments that share the group’s liberating message.  The troupe of six dancers and four drummers vibrantly tell their stories and inspire their audiences.  With titles including “Change My Life,” “Shine” and “All Things Are Possible,” the energetic performances chronicle the history of Haiti including the nation’s struggle against slavery as well as life in both rural and urban Haiti.

The goal of the 2011 “Resurrection from the Rubble” tour is to raise $250,000.  The troupe has performed in Nebraska, Arizona, Texas and Colorado and will conclude the tour in California following five engagements throughout metro Atlanta, including Marietta.  All attendees will be invited to share in a free will offering to support St. Joseph’s Home for Boys.  One hundred percent of all donations from the dance tour go to support the home.
