Temple Kol Emeth Honors Dedicated Members

The Avodah Award recognizes congregants who have given above and beyond in time, efforts and sometimes funds to better the congregation and its members, as well as the Cobb and Atlanta communities.

Temple Kol Emeth, the Reform Jewish congregation in East Cobb County, honored this year’s recipients of their Avodah Award at the 6th annual “Lights of TKE – Avodah – Evening of Honor” gala dinner celebration on Saturday, April 19 at the Georgia Aquarium.

The Avodah Award recognizes congregants who have given above and beyond in time, efforts and sometimes funds to better the congregation and its members, as well as the Cobb and Atlanta communities.

David Kimmel, an early Kol Emeth member was project manager in the design and construction of the synagogue building; he is currently CEO of the Georgia Aquarium.

Renae Popkin, also a long-time member, is an accomplished writer, jewelry maker and graphic designer and consummate volunteer for such organizations as MUST Ministries, Ronald McDonald House and various political and environmental causes… and, of course, TKE.

Musician, Ira Wajsman, plays piano and keyboard at Temple Kol Emeth as accompanist to the adult choir and plays at many weekly worship services and special events. A gemologist by profession, he is founder of the Chaverim Klezmer Band.

Over 275 attendees packed the Oceans Ballroom at the Georgia Aquarium and enjoyed a festive night including a silent auction, dinner, dancing, and celebrating these three outstanding nominees.
