Summer Reading Events at East Cobb Library

The Mountain View branch also is among the venues for special programs from June 1-July 31.

The Cobb County Public Library System's Summer Reading Program starts next week. The East Cobb Library and the Mountain View Regional Library will be the venue for some special events.

The library system has scheduled more than 700 programs and activities through July 31 to celebrate reading and to encourage the development of lifelong literacy skills.

The following events will be taking place at branches in the East Cobb area:

  • Books Alive! Musical Theatre Program, featuring singer and storyteller Wendy Bennett, will be presented at the East Cobb Library on Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m.
  • Summer & Fall Trips and Tiks with the AAA: The AAA will present this informational travel program at the East Cobb Library on Monday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Dead Men DO Tell Tales! is a program offered by Joanne Ellars and Betty Hunter at the Mountain View Regional Library on Saturday, June 8 at 3 p.m. Join these two experts as they tell you tales of the underground “life” in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery and the adjacent City Cemetery.

Adults and young adults in grades 6-12 are encouraged to submit book reviews. Forms can be picked up at the branches or submitted online at www.cobbcat.org/srp. Each person who enters a book review will be eligible to win one of five Kindles, which were donated by the family of Bernice B. Franklin, a library board member and long-time library supporter who passed away recently.

CCPLS also issues library cards to schools (principals) and businesses (owners) in Cobb County, and current Cobb County employees.

To offer a wide variety of programs for the public, the library system has partnered with organizations like Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs; Cobb County Extension; Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office; Mushroom Club of Georgia; Keep Cobb Beautiful; Cobb County Police Department; Marietta City Parks and Recreation; Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History; the Royal Scottish Country Dancers; Mable House Arts Center; Chattahoochee River National Recreation Center; Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art; and Georgia Mineral Society. Other programs include visits from the ever-popular Queen Glitter and the Atlanta Zoomobile, movies, and special story times.  Information about these events and others planned throughout the summer can be found at www.cobbcat.org/calendar.
