Sope Creek Work Day Starts Monday

A community-wide gathering will be renovating environmental education sites at Sope Creek Elementary School this week.

will be the site of a “first of its kind work day” this week bringing together parents, community and 50 Lowe’s employees who will work side by side with community and parents to build and renovate environmental education sites at the school. 

School staff, 50 employees from local Lowe’s Stores, Sope Creek Foundation members, community leaders will work Monday and Tuesday to break ground at three garden sites at the school, enhancing the outdoor learning experience for children. The work days begin at 8 a.m. each day; Wednesday is a make-up day in case of rain.

The school’s active environmental committee has received grants over the past year from Lowe’s, Keep Cobb Beautiful, and the Sope Creek Foundation to build environmental education locations around the school.

New environmental sites include a Five-Senses Garden with unique artist-designed garden sculptures, a 3600-square foot fruit and vegetable garden complete with a greenhouse and a renovated front entrance garden.
