3. Today is Alzheimer’s Action Day. The Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is urging people to wear purple and to use the “END ALZ” logo as their Facebook profile picture to raise awareness of the disease. “Our goal is that Alzheimer’s Action Day will help us get the word out so that we can continue to provide support for patients and caregivers and fund research to cure this disease,” said Leslie Anderson, the president and CEO of the Georgia Chapter. The organization is holding an open house from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its Perimeter Mall-area office, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550.

4. East Cobb golfer Brenda Pictor, 56, is due to tee off at 8 this morning in the third round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach. That means she’s one of 16 women left with a chance to win the U.S. Golf Association-sponsored national championship. Pictor already earned medalist honors by shooting 2-over 146 for the lowest two-round total in the weekend stroke play used to pick the 64 women who advanced to match play Monday. Pictor, who lost in the round of 16 at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur last week in Chattanooga, TN, won her first match 1-up and her second 2-and-1 to reach today’s match against Shawn Farmer of Bellevue, WA.
