Robotics Team Heads to Super Regionals

Girls Exploring New Ideas Using Science (GENIUS) will unveil 'The Cool Factor' invention at the First Lego League robotics competition of the year.

Girls Exploring New Ideas Using Science (GENIUS) enter their next superregional competition Jan. 14 at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) following a First Lego League's (FLL) with their designed 'The Cool Factor' alarm system for coolers.

The Cool Factor alerts you when the temperature in your cooler becomes too high to be safe for food. The device will be judged at the upcoming SPSU competition.

"Throughout the day each team will be judged in three areas: project, technical and core value. No coaches or parents are allowed in any of these sessions.  There will also be three robot competition rounds," GENIUS Coach Linda Pham told Northeast Cobb Patch.

About 16 teams from this tournament will move onto the state tournament at Georgia Tech on Jan. 28. There are two other superregionals that will also send 16 teams to state.

"I personally think some of the best teams are coming to SPSU. I'm not sure what many of their projects are but I do know we have great competition on the robot tables," said Pham.
