Rain, Satellite Falling from the Sky

Here's what you should know to start a rainy first day of fall, Sept. 23, in East Cobb.

1. The flash-flooding threat isn’t over, but the worst of the rain should be past us by 8 a.m., the National Weather Service says. It will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers possible the rest of the day. The high will be about 78; the overnight low will be around 58.

2. A little rain won’t stop high school football tonight. East Cobb Patch will have a preview of the games involving , , and ; all but Walker are on the road. We’ll post updates of scores during the games tonight on the website and through Twitter (@GaPatchSports), and we plan to post extensive coverage of the games Saturday. 3. It’s Senior Citizens Day and Georgia Lottery Day at the at in Marietta. That means admission is free if you’re 55 or older; if you’re not, you can cut $1 off the price by bringing a losing lottery ticket.

5. NASA is spending the first day of fall tracking the , whose pieces are expected to crash to Earth this afternoon or evening. The space agency says UARS won’t be over North America during those times, but it will post updates on projections as they become available.
