Nirvana Coming Soon for East Cobb Kitchen Geeks

Here's what's cookin' in East Cobb today.

Well, here's another reason to get sidetracked from doing regular errands in the Merchants Walk Area.

The Cook's Warehouse is coming.

Oh yes it is.

Gourmet and homebody cooks alike who have been flocking to metro Atlanta locations in Buckhead, Decatur and Brookhaven to get the latest in fine cookware, cutlery and appliance will be able to do so in East Cobb starting in the summer.

The 4,800-square foot space will be located right next to the Whole Foods location that also will open this summer.

Isn't it enough that is staring me down as I pick up kitty supplies at PetSmart? Or that is ready to appeal to whatever my palate may be telling me as I dip into Kohl's?

Now I, along with other East Cobb kitchen geeks, will find it impossible to resist the lure of Zwilling, JA Henckels, Demeyere, All-Clad, Jura, Capresso, Cuisinart, Le Creuset and Staub -- the Murderer's Row of the cookware clan. And there's Myabi, Shun, Swiss Diamond, Wüsthof and WMF coming off the bench.

The Cook's Warehouse also offers cooking classes.

I may never eat out again.

2. Delay on Camp Sign-Up: Today was to have been registration day for summer camp programs at East Cobb's Fullers Recreation Center, but that has been put on hold.

The Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department announced that registration has been temporarily suspended until next week for Fullers and other park locations. No reason was given, but Cobb commissioners voted on Tuesday to slash spending across all departments by 10 percent, and with deeper cuts to parks and recreation.

The Fullers registration is scheduled for next Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. The park is located at 3499 Robinson Road.

3. Dems Ladies Night Out: The Cobb Democratic Women will be having their tonight at the Doubletree Atlanta Northwest Hotel near Windy Hill Road and I-75 in East Cobb.

Mary Squires, a Democratic candidate for Georgia insurance commissioner, is the guest speaker. Tickets are $28 per person and the event runs from 6-9 p.m. Call  770-639-5658 for information.

4. Sunny For Now: Today's the last of the warm sunshine until the end of the weekend, if our local meteorologists are right. Thursday's weather calls for sunny skies all day, with temperatures reaching in the high 70s. Winds will be light, between 5 to 10 mph. So get out and enjoy if you can before thunderstorms move into the EC Friday and Saturday.

5. Take Me Out to the Sports Bar: Want to get out of the house and take in a ball game but don't feel like going all the way to Turner Field? (And you wouldn't be alone in not showing up down there, based on the attendance figures from the current Braves-Marlins series.)

The folks at Game Day, the newest East Cobb sports bar at 1050 East Piedmont Road, have the Braves on the big screens every night they're playing, including tonight's series finale with the Fish that starts at 7.

Not a bad way to relax, jump-start the weekend and get fired up for the dastardly Metropolitans coming to town.
