The land was purchased by Cobb County with the proceeds from a 2006 bond referendum, but developmental plans are contingent on the construction of an access road to the property from Wesley Chapel Road.

The Friends organization was formed as a non-profit volunter organization in 2009 and paid for the park's master plan (see attached PDF). It continues to fundraise for its development.

The Nov. 10 tours are free and open to the public, but good walking shoes are recommended for all visitors.
