East Cobb Summer Camp Options

A few ideas to keep your kids engaged, active and learning this summer.

1. Camp Kingfisher -- The Chattahoochee Nature Center's sessions emphasizing discoveries of the natural world are open for registration. Here's the current availability list, and here is the registration form that can be faxed, mailed or brought to the center. 

Camp Kingfisher is open to children from kindergarten through the 9th grade. Full-day camps are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and half-day camps are not available due to lack of registration. Camp dates begin on May 31 and last as late as Aug. 12, with a maximum of two weeks for the longest sessions. Costs range from $248 to $950, with a discount tier for CNC members.

2. Shakespeare Superheroes Summer Camp -- Cobb's Mt. Paran Christian School is the location for the New American Shakespeare Tavern's summer camp sessions, which will be June 6-17 and July 18-29. Designed for ages 7-14, this camp introduces young actors to the language, stories, characters and ideas in Shakespeare’s plays in imaginative and playful ways, with groups of no more than 25 each.

Camp days last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration continues through April 1, and  anonline registration form is here. The cost is $475 per student per session.

3. North Atlanta Soccer Association -- The full-scale youth soccer organization located in East Cobb has several recreational summer camp sessions in June and July.

The camps are open to boys and girls ages 6-13, and camp locations are at NASA's main Metro North fields on Paper Mill Road and at United Quest Park in North Cobb. Half-day (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and full-day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) sessions are available. 

The cost is $125 per person for the half-day camps, and $200 per child for full-day. Campers must bring their own shoes, shin guards and other equipment.

4. The Art Place -- A bevy of summer art classes is available at East Cobb's own artists' paradise, including visual arts, drama and multimedia options. 

For elementary school ages, the "Beneath the Surface" camps will focus this summer on local American fiber and textile artists. Those camps start on June 6 and run as late as July 22. The age ranges are 4-9, and all camps will be in half-day segments (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

For ages 10-13, the choices will let campers choose their own camps, ranging from drawing and painting, anime and cartooning, pottery and multimedia. 

For teens, a cabaret camp is featured, with auditions taking place in mid-May for the camp's production of "The Drowsy Chaperone."
