East Cobb Scouts Stress Eco-Friendly Products

Members of Troop 2233 handed out samples at Saturday's East Cobb Park festivities.

Thanks to Dorothea Westin for letting us know about East Cobb Girl Scout Troop 2233's Take Action project some of you may have seen during Saturday's celebrations at East Cobb Park:

East Cobb Park’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, on Saturday, July 13, 2013, was a great platform for local Girl Scouts to present their free, eco-friendly products and research on keeping chemicals out of our environment. Girl Scout Troop 2233 of the Magnolia Service Unit in Cobb County, Georgia completed their Take Action Project during this festival. The girls spent the day handing out over 150 free samples of eco-friendly products. If people were to use these products on a regular basis, it would reduce the number of chemicals entering our water system and waste disposal treatment facilities. They thrilled to share their research and hard work with park visitors.

The Girl Scouts, who are all ages 10-13 from local schools (East Cobb Middle School, Faith Lutheran, Shreiner Academy and Wood Acres), worked hard to connect with people on how they can make a difference. One of the girls commented, “We have learned that one person making a single change to their daily routine can make a huge difference over time. So, we thought, if we could each get a person to make a change, it would explode the differences over time.”

She said the items were inexpensive to make, and that the girls were guided in their project by information from the green-friendly Mini Manor Blog and Building it on Pennies
