A Memorial Day Weekend Sampler

There's plenty going on in and around East Cobb to commemorate the holiday.

When/Where: Today, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Art Place, 3330 Sandy Plains Road.

2. Memorial Day Concert

When/Where: Sunday, 3 p.m. Kell High School Performing Arts Center, 4770 Lee Waters Road.

Why go: Salute the US Armed Forces with the Cobb Wind Symphony.

Price: Free.

When/Where: Sunday, 6 p.m. Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Sancturary, 4385 Lower Roswell Road.

Why go: Full orchestra, choral groups, spoken word, special guests pay tribute to our veterans and first responders. Program followed by ice cream social.

Price: Free. Nursery available, must register.

4. Veterans Remembrance Day  

Where/When: Sunday, noon - 5 p.m. Atlanta History Center, 130 West Paces Road, Atlanta.

Why go: Interact with both veterans and living history interpreters representing the branches of US Armed Forces, sing along with live group, Vintage Vocals, and look at wartime memorabilia. 

Price: Free with general admission. $16.50 for adults, $13 for seniors 65+ and students 13 and up,  $11 for youths 4 to 12. Free for Members and children under 4.

5. National Memorial Day Ceremony

When/Where: Monday, noon. Marietta National Cemetery, 500 Washington Ave, Marietta.

Why go: National Memorial Day Association of Georgia and The Avenue of Flags, Inc. present their 63rd annual ceremony. Guest speaker is Major General Raymond V. Mason, current Deputy Chief of Staff, US Army, Fort McPherson. 

Price: Free.
