5K Run for Injured Lassiter Graduate

Saturday's event will help pay for medical expenses for Christopher Heitzman.

The Lassiter High School community is rallying this weekend to support one of its own.

The Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run takes takes place Saturday morning at the school, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses.

Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in July in a car accident on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach.

Another recent Lassiter graduate, Taylor Seaman, also was injured in the accident and is a freshman at Georgia College in Milledgeville, where Heitzman was planning to attend on a baseball scholarship.

The accident left Heitzman with a head injury and several broken bones, and he requires a wheelchair and around-the-clock care, according to an article in The Marietta Daily Journal.

The story said Heitzman, who spent two months at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta as part of his rehabilitation, will need more surgeries.

Pre-registration for the run is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the race. See the attached flyer for more information or contact Jamie Cole at jdcole001@yahoo.com or 404-384-9304.

A raffle, vendors, snacks and live music in the Lassiter parking lot after the run are also part of the event.
